May 17, 2020

With the Hub71 MENA Growth Competition 2.0 Demo Day barely a couple of weeks away, the 10 finalists shortlisted for the prestigious event are in the final stages of their preparation to woo the judges and walk home with a pool of exciting rewards.

Just in case you didn’t know, Bahrain-based Nakheel one of the finalists in the competition powered by MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab.

Nakheel is an agri-tech startup with its own proprietary Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. The company’s unique platform empowers palm tree farmers by helping them detect the menacing Red Palm Weevil right in the early stages of the infection.

More specifically, Nakheel deploys its platform to help farmers, as well as the government, by providing them access to a daily updated GIS database. This way, all stakeholders involved in palm tree farming can identify the precise location of infested palm trees before it’s too late.

The startup’s comprehensive web interface goes into details by keeping a log of the health of every single palm tree on a farm. Additionally, Nakheel also offers a dedicated mobile app that farmers can use to stay connected 24x7 with the rest of the farming community and get valuable updates as and when anything of substance happens.

The other nine finalists to participate in the much-anticipated Demo Day include Praxilabs (Egypt), Basma (Lebanon), Trella (Egypt), Augmental (Lebanon), Singularity Computing (Algeria), Tawazon (Palestine), arabee (UAE), Widebot (Egypt), and Mint Basil Market (Lebanon)

The winners of the competition will receive direct access to Hub71's incentive program encompassing subsidized living, office space, medical insurance, and the opportunity to network with the most renowned mentors, investors, and potential partners in the region's startup ecosystem.
